Getting picky in my old age?

Lately I've discovered that I'm starting to get real picky with the fics I read. Usually I can over look some things if the story seems interesting enough, including a certain level of poor grammar, characteristics that are contrary to what's seen on tv, poor formatting, etc, but for the past few weeks I haven't been able to do that. I wonder if I'm getting too picky sometimes, especially when I'm mentally yelling 'Get an editor!' when I don't always use a beta myself (and I probably should. If anyone's actually reading this and is interested in betaing CSI fics with no pairings, please email me.)

On the one hand, being picky can be a good thing, but on the other hand this is a hobby for most of us. So how picky is too picky? I think a few typos are certainly reasonable as I have several professionally published paper backs with errors. A repeated misuse of they're, their or there and other homonyms are extremely annoying. A few misplaced or missing commas is understandable because I've seen professionals debate over the placement of those dratted things but a story with no apparent concern for sentence structure is almost unreadable.

I have a lot more to say on the subject but it's almost 2am and time to sleep.

Too bad no one reads this.

If you're here and reading this, I'd love to read your opinion.

    <lj:music>Whatever's on tv right now</lj:music>

Wow, I set this up last July? I've setup a website for my fic (http://home.comcast.net/~nebulosity) so there isn't much point in posting it here, though I guess I could post notices of new fic. Not that anyone actually visits since I haven't advertised the journal, which means I'm talking too my self...

I know, I'll act like people are reading and give a brief intro... My name's Nebulosity, Neb for short, BlueNebulosity when Nebulosity is taken. I read and write CSI fic; mostly gen and Gil/Warrick. I also read and will probably write House MD fic in the categories of gen, House/Cuddy and House/Wilson. I read other fandoms sporadically, usually when I stumble onto the fic. My very first foray into fanfiction was Highlander way back when the web was new and I technically wasn't old enough to read some of the stuff I did.

There's more of course - I'm a musician, computer geek, web geek, astronomy geek, and just all around geek.

What should I do with this journal? I could rant about my computer problems, my boss, my sleep problems, or I could post the fic I'm writing, or just keep more of a diary of my thoughts.

Of course, I'm just talking to myself right now since I haven't actually told anyone that I have a LiveJournal, much less my user name. Not that I need a computer to talk to myself.

Hmmm...
